Yes, it was hell for me this morning and I did burst into tears, but as I sit at my desk trying to work, I remembered last night. I read Jaycee Junior at Dr Suess book called ‘Oh, the places you’ll go’ which I got before I went on my first overseas holiday nearly 14 years ago. I was only going to read some of it because I was so tired myself but I couldn’t resist reading the whole lot.
It had useful tidbits for me too, like being in a slump and it being hard to get out of a slump. I’ll try and remember this book for when I need a boost.
I read it to him, and then he read it back to me. I laid there on the bed next to him just about falling asleep while he read to me (his interpretation of the book of course, as he can’t actually read yet but I do like his interpretations) and then he said that I hadn’t read this page. He was right, somehow I’d skipped over that page accidentally. I read it then struggled out of his bed so he could go to sleep.
He loves reading at the moment. When I picked him up from childcare the other day, I couldn’t see him and I was told he was in the book corner with his mate (he’s starting to hang around with boys more than girls now) reading a book. They commented about his love for books.
I found this website just now which has tips about avoiding and dealing with tantrums – the three year old kind – not the mother of the three year old kind.
It’s International Women’s Day, a day to recognise women and celebrate gender equality and women’s rights. It’s a day to remind us that it’s still an ongoing process, that we must not be complacent in what we’ve achieved so far.

To the fuckwit who gave me the finger due to his incompetent driving and was the straw that broke the camel’s back, this is to you. You giving me the finger due to your incompetent driving came on top of all of this and it’s only 9am.
- Jaycee Junior informed me that he was wet so I had to take his sheets off the bed and wash them.
- He then didn’t want to come near me to get dressed and when I forced the issue a little bit a tantrum followed.
- I got his breakfast ready (Weetbix) in front of him and he nearly always has Weetbix for breakfast and then he spat it because he wanted toast. I put him in his room while he had another tantrum.
- He wouldn’t put his teeth together so I could brush his teeth and when I said, ‘do it yourself’ he spat it yet again.
- He wouldn’t get in the car after I asked him three times and then had a tantrum when I lifted him into the car.
So incompetent driver, by the time you gave me the finger it was the end and I started crying. Are you happy now?
Don’t let anyone ever tell you that it’s just terrible two’s then it’s ok. Three year olds are worse – take it from me.
This weekend just gone turned into a Womadelaide feast for me. I was originally just going on the Sunday but it ended up being much more than that. I had a great time. It was a feast for all the senses. One of the Womad highlights for me is the roving performances. Here’s a photo of the seagulls. They were fabulous – acting just like seagulls. This photo shows them attacking the rubbish bins for food. They even went for some peoples picnic and at the end of their feeding frenzy were a heap of chocolate biscuits left over the rug.
Today I took Jaycee Junior for his first ever professional haircut. He’s got really tight curls so I’ve only ever used the clippers or hacked at it myself but I haven’t done this for about eight months now so it was getting quite long. As he’s got African type hair there’s no way I can get a comb through it so I’ve just had to separate the knots as best I could to much screaming, even with hair conditioner. I’ve even resorted to separating his knots when he’s in bed at night. He’ll wriggle around a bit but doesn’t wake up.
I’ve been meaning to take him somewhere and get it tidied up for a while now and I looked at him this morning and thought I’ll do it today. A friend of mine works in a hairdressers down the road so I made an appointment and off we went. He was so good and very cute while it was being done. My friend couldn’t put a comb through it so it was a bit different for her but she did a great job. She cut about an inch off and separated some knots as well. I wasn’t allowed to go near him.
It wasn’t until afterwards that he turned into a monster. One you drag around the supermarket trying to shop. He yelled at someone not to get too much of that (cans of sweetcorn). He sat in the middle of an aisle holding onto the ham I’d just got. He yelled out to me when he was only a very short distance away from me. I hope the elderly woman sitting on her wheely thing was a bit deaf as she was inbetween us.
We’re off to Womadelaide tomorrow and probably Sunday so I’m trying to get most of my weekend household chores done today.
Yesterday I had a shower in the afternoon and as I was only hanging around at home I didn’t do much with my hair, just blow dried the top bit so it sat properly and that was it. When it dried I must have popped my hair behind my ears. Last night while washing my hands I had a look in the mirror and thought, gee my hair looks ok and there’s no product in there.
Today when getting ready for work I thought I’d do the same thing – only I put a bit of my sea-salt hair stuff in, blow dried the top bit on my crown and again, that was it. If I could have $5 for everyone who’s commented on my new hairstyle I would be able to have a good night out this weekend. They all thought I’d had something done. Of course, the irony is that I’ve done (nearly) nothing.
So why am I wasting money on using hair shapers and stuff nearly every day? No more.
I’ve heard a few gastro stories lately. You know, the one where it’s going round a bit lately. Well it’s made it to our household. I got up this morning to get ready for a walk, then work. I went into Jaycee Junior’s room, got him dressed and then when he was putting his shoes on he vomited. It was mainly phlegm so I didn’t think too much of it.
We walked the dog and Jaycee Junior was really quiet throughout the walk so I started to get suspicious that all was not well. I made him some toast when we got home and it wasn’t long before he was sick again – this time mainly all in the toilet. Definitely no work for us today. He’s watching ABC Kids and I’m doing this and emailing work telling them I won’t be in today.
I just hope I don’t get it too. I’ve already washed my hands ten times this morning. These things usually pass pretty quickly so today will be a good chance for me to catch up on some things.
