Three and a half years till a proper haircut

March 4, 2005 by Jen at Semantically driven

Today I took Jaycee Junior for his first ever professional haircut. He’s got really tight curls so I’ve only ever used the clippers or hacked at it myself but I haven’t done this for about eight months now so it was getting quite long. As he’s got African type hair there’s no way I can get a comb through it so I’ve just had to separate the knots as best I could to much screaming, even with hair conditioner. I’ve even resorted to separating his knots when he’s in bed at night. He’ll wriggle around a bit but doesn’t wake up.

I’ve been meaning to take him somewhere and get it tidied up for a while now and I looked at him this morning and thought I’ll do it today. A friend of mine works in a hairdressers down the road so I made an appointment and off we went. He was so good and very cute while it was being done. My friend couldn’t put a comb through it so it was a bit different for her but she did a great job. She cut about an inch off and separated some knots as well. I wasn’t allowed to go near him.

It wasn’t until afterwards that he turned into a monster. One you drag around the supermarket trying to shop. He yelled at someone not to get too much of that (cans of sweetcorn). He sat in the middle of an aisle holding onto the ham I’d just got. He yelled out to me when he was only a very short distance away from me. I hope the elderly woman sitting on her wheely thing was a bit deaf as she was inbetween us.

We’re off to Womadelaide tomorrow and probably Sunday so I’m trying to get most of my weekend household chores done today.
