Part of JJ’s birthday present haul was the card game Uno which we played last Friday night as part of our Friday night tradition which now allows some variety between Trouble and Snap.
I dealt one hand of the Uno cards, he picked the cards up, had a look and told me that his hand wasn’t very interesting. He’s got a bit to learn about the poker face, but he totally understands the rules of Uno. He’s played it at after school care along with every other card game they’ve got there.
Anyway, we played four games and he won three of them – really easily. There’s no way I need to let him win to feel better, he needs to let me win to feel better and he would totally do that if it meant we could play more hands of cards.
I can’t wait until we can play more card games and other games like backgammon. My backgammon board has been pretty much gathering dust for quite some time now because there’s no-one else here to play it with.
Any suggestions for other card games suitable for a six year old that would interest an adult too?
We play snap, memory and go fish.
I remember we taught a friend’s son Casino when I played it a lot – must try it out on my daughter – it is a great game for maths.
