Today I’ve been blogging for three years. Bloody hell, who’d have thought. Well not me obviously. This is because I’m a good one for starting a project all gung-ho and then the excitement wears off, but this blogging thing has stuck around, and I’ve stuck by it. We haven’t even had any major separations during the three years. Boredom, or bloggers block has set in occasionally but we’ve always come back to each other.
This was my first blog post three years ago and not much has changed since then as I just write pretty much what I feel like. I wouldn’t say I’ve got a niche or a particular subject for this blog, it’s more a place just to write as I feel passionately about the act of doing it. I don’t necessarily feel passionate about the act of writing something in particular to potentially earn myself some money, which would be great by the way.
My blog readership has grown just slightly so I’m not in a writing vacuum here which is one of the joys of blogging – the sense of community.
Here are three blogs I’ve come across lately that I really enjoy. I’ve only got three as my blogroll is growing as slowly as my readership.
- The Life of Riley – a fantastic new blog by 107 year old Australian Olive, written by her mate Mike. I heard about this via Time Goes By and after visiting All About Olive realised I’d seen a documentary about her on tv a while back (apparently it’s being repeated on the ABC on 1 May at 11.30 pm – set your videos).
- Jeanie in Paradise – can’t remember how I found her (actually she might have found me) but she’s also a sole parent (well maybe she’s not now) living in Australia. I like the way she tells her stories of parenthood, trying to find a job, and just living.
- Freak Parade – am able to relate to a lot of what she goes through on a daily basis, in particular our sons have similar-ish issues. Her humorous take on situations makes for entertaining reading, and anyone whose favourite song is Jackson by Johnny Cash and June Carter has got to have great taste.
I said in my blog title that it’s almost the longest relationship I’ve ever had. It depends how relationship is defined, but when I wrote it I was thinking in terms of boyfriends and this time next year my blog will be winning. If I keep writing this blog forever, it will always win.
Congratulations! I think you have been in my feed for two of those years. So you do have something. I put things in my feed but then I also weed it out every so often – and you keep on surviving the cut.
You are in my feed as well. I’ve stopped using the blogroll on my page, but have just sort of left it sitting there.
Wow. Three years is pretty impressive. Happy blogiversary.
Oh I missed your Blogiversary Jen….sorry. I guess I haven’t been checking my blogging buddies for a few days….working a lot on BlogHer. Happy 3rd Anniversary sweetie….many, many more. Hugs…
Hey there – just getting back into blogworld after Easter holidays, so missed this nod – THANK YOU!
I think I found you through Janeen at http://diaryofasinglemom.clubmom.com/
and was so pleased to find another Aussie solo mother in blogworld!
Congratulations – and love to Monty from Poppers. They could almost be twins except that Poppers has enormous feet and cloudy eyes because of cataracts. I’d put a photo up but the camera is a tiny freebie from a stationery company and anyway I’ve never mastered that bit of technology!!
