On being caught in the rain

August 17, 2011 by Jen

That kind of winter's day. Day 260/365.

Wednesday, 10 August 2011, Day 260/365.

I know it’s winter and winter usually means more rain around here. And after the shortage of rain we’ve had I really don’t want to complain.

But why does it nearly always rain when it’s time to go outside and go somewhere? This somewhere is usually somewhere you have to be on time like dropping off or picking up a child from school, like going to work. Why?

I don’t like big golf umbrellas so my little umbrella keeps my hair and face dry and that’s about it.

I’ve got one of those light-weight foldup umbrellas which I permanently leave in my handbag so the convenience of that outweighs a bit of water on other parts of my body apart from my hair and my face.

Let’s face it, when it’s windy and the rain is coming in sideways a big umbrella’s not going to help anyway. And as a pedestrian those big umbrellas are just bloody annoying.

So I can drag out my little umbrella from my handbag while people around me whinge that they didn’t bring theirs and they’ll get wet. If it rains on my way somewhere next time my trusty little umbrella will keep me from having wet hair.

It’s raining again

April 27, 2009 by Jen

Rain - what's that?

I don’t want to jinx anything by writing this but it’s been raining here for the last few days. I don’t know exactly how much rain we’ve had here but it was the type of weather over the weekend where nothing would dry on the clothes line outside because of the rain.

JJ loves going outside in the rain and if it was warmer I would have let him do it without clothes on, but as it was a bit cool I made him put my rain jacket on, his rubber boots and use his umbrella. This shot was taken when it was a really heavy downpour which is why the background is so blurred.

We’ve got showers forecast for the next few days and there will be no complaining from people in these parts.
