Multitasking – boys can do it

September 30, 2011 by Jen

Multitasking. Day 304/365.

Friday, 23 September 2011, Day 304/365.

There’s a rumour going around that boys/men can’t multitask. I put it to you that it is men that have spread this rumour so they have a good excuse to get out of doing things requested of them by women.

I’ve seen evidence that males can multitask. I’ve caught out my boyfriend doing just that and he’s sworn me to silence so as not to ruin the myth that men can’t multitask. Sorry I’m breaking my silence.

In other evidence, I’ve seen my son playing his DS with the computer on his lap and the tv on too. This could be related more to his generation having short atttention spans and the like because they’ve so many electronic things to ‘stimulate’ them.

So girls, don’t let them fool you. Our menfolk can multitask when they choose.

Shapes

Lots of straight lines make some curves. Day 303/365.
Thursday, 22 September 2011, Day 303/365.

Remember doing one of these at school? I kind of vaguely do.

There’s probably a proper name for it. I’ve no idea what it is, but I like the effect that the straight lines make.

It was my son’s homework one night and I think he enjoyed doing it.

Staying put

View from level 13. Day 302/365.

Wednesday, 21 September 2011, Day 302/365.

Making the most of the view outside my window at work. I was told more than a month ago that I’d be moving but nothing’s happened and any mention of it hasn’t happened for some time now.

I’d like to stay at my desk because it’s better than where I’d be going.

Hopefully they’ve forgotten?

Play us a song piano man

September 27, 2011 by Jen

Showing us his new piano skills. Day 301/365.

Tuesday, 20 September 2011, Day 301/365.

I have to admit that when I take JJ out to an adult thing he’s usually pretty good. I mostly let him take his DS just incase he needs to entertain himself but he doesn’t always use it.

I do get the “I’m bored”, “I want to go home” whines sometimes but usually he’s excellent.

Last Tuesday we went to a friend’s going away and as it was an evening thing I only planned to stay for a little while so I could get him home to bed at a reasonable hour. If I didn’t take him it would mean not going, or organising childcare for a few hours which is probably more disruptive sometimes.

He knew most of my friends who were there so was able to chat to them. There was a piano at this place and as I’ve shared before, he’s been learning piano.

After we’d been there for about an hour he asked me if he could play the piano. I said to ask the owner and she said it was fine so off he went. The piano was upstairs and most of us were downstairs.

As I said he’s only been learning the piano for a few weeks but he’s got a couple of tunes he’s memorised and a friend showed him an easy one which he’s since played every day.

It was great to see him do this of his own accord and get off the hand-held game. And he enjoyed himself.

Pot of gold at the end of the rainbow

September 26, 2011 by Jen

Double rainbow. Day 300/365.

Monday, 19 September 2011, Day 300/365.

Last Monday was one of those awful windy spring days. One of those days where it hasn’t rained for a while so the dust is picked up by the wind and annoys hayfever sufferers. Before I even went to work I had a hayfever tablet which helped a bit, but didn’t help the dull head I had all day.

On the way home from work it poured with rain and as I looked out the window I saw this rainbow. It was one of those perfect ones where it stretches all the way across the sky.

After I got off the bus it had pretty much stopped raining, but I’d got my umbrella out just in case and the man said to me that it was lucky I had my umbrella. I told him I always carry it and then because I thought he hadn’t seen the rainbow and everyone should see it I pointed it out.

He said there might be a pot of gold at the end of it to which I replied that I was going to pick up my pot of gold, ie my son.

On the way to pick up my pot of gold, I took this photo and it wasn’t until I saw it later that I realised there were two rainbows. Does that mean a double pot of gold?

Weekend

September 26, 2011 by Jen

Birthday girl. Day 298/365.

Saturday, 17 September 2011, Day 298/365.

In flower. Day 299/365.

Sunday, 18 September 2011, Day 299/365.

The weekend that was. Celebrating a friend’s 40th and enjoying lovely spring weather.

That was a week ago and now I’ve got a virus and don’t feel like much at all.

Holding the rail

September 23, 2011 by Jen

Hold the rail. Day 297/365.

Friday, 16 September 2011, Day 297/365.

This is a bit of a health post. A few months ago I wrote about my sore knees and how I was having some glucosamine powder but it was so awful I had to find ways of making it more palatable.

I did the mix it with fruit smoothy thing for a little while but gave it up and just ended up mixing the powder with water, holding my nose, drinking it and without taking another breath, having a sip of coffee to get rid of the god-awful taste.

I was really glad when I finished this powder.

I’m now taking the equivalent in tablet form and it’s much much better. And so are my knees. I take one of the glucosamine tablets, two fish oil tablets and a Vitamin B tablet and my knees are much better.

They would hurt when walking up and down stairs and I still get a twinge but it’s much easier to get up stairs without wincing at the pain.
