Red light doesn’t always mean stop

August 15, 2011 by Jen

Green light. Day 258/365.

Monday, 8 August 2011, Day 258/365.

The watched green light when you’re waiting for the walking green light to cross the road seems to take ages.

But beware. Vehicles still go through a red light sometimes so you have to watch for traffic that doesn’t obey, or just doesn’t see a red light.

This is why, kids, that you’re told not to run across the road. Case in point. One afternoon we were crossing this intersection and my boy started skipping across the road. Luckily he paused in the middle and then suddenly stopped as a car went right through the red light. If my son had kept going he would have been killed or severely injured for sure. My heart nearly went through my chest when I saw this and I thanked my lucky stars that all the nagging paid off this time.

Another case in point. I always look both ways when I get the green light to cross an intersection while driving. One morning after a late night out I had finished this step and was about to take off when I saw a car run a red light and the two cars that took off in front of me were crashed into by this car.

Luckily it wasn’t a severe accident but it was still enough to cause inconvenience for everyone involved.
