I think I did mention yesterday I made a fairly last minute decision to go and see Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds at Thebarton Theatre last night. And I’m very glad I made that last minute decision. I got there just in time to walk in and see Nick on stage.
I love seeing bands at Thebbie because it’s big enough to cater for bands like Nick’s but it’s intimate enough that you can have a good view. If it weren’t for taller people it would be great.
They did a good mix of songs from the excellent new album ‘Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus’ album which I thoroughly recommend getting if you don’t have it already. I did miss them not doing Nature Boy though as that’s my favourite song.
Older favourite songs of mine they did – Deanna, Mercy Seat, Weeping Song – love em all.
What I don’t understand though is people that pay 70 odd dollars to go and see a band like this and spend the whole bloody time on their mobile phone. There’s one in every crowd, or probably more but I always seem to stand next to them. Two girls in front of me were speaking to someone on the phone nearly all night on and off. I don’t get it.
I think Nick Cave et al played for about two hours and came back on for two encores. The first encore consisted of quite slow songs and then the second encore he played Stagger Lee which was just brilliant. Nick is so full of energy and considering how much he smokes he’s very active on stage.
