Those annoying squiggly lines in Word

February 12, 2008 by Jen

Last night JJ was practising typing his words on the computer (I also made him write them). He was going quite well, as well as he could with the dodgy keyboard that doesn’t recognise when you’re pressing on some letters, until he started completely losing it. I was in the kitchen preparing dinner and ignored him for a bit then the noise reached a crescendo that I couldn’t stand any more.

I went out to see what the problem was and he told me he was really upset about the squiggly red and green lines underneath the words. (For those unfamiliar with Word, if you have spelling and grammar checking as you type turned on it creates these squiggly lines if it thinks your spelling and/or grammar is incorrect.)

As dinner was nearly ready I told him to shut down the computer and explained to him that all he had needed to do was ask me if I could get rid of the squiggly lines.

Talk about sweating the small stuff!

Do you know that I have never even THOUGHT of turning them off until you mentioned it then?

ha ha – I taught ‘Salina about using F7 (spellcheck) so that you could learn to ignore the bad spelling and get rid of the underline if it bothered her that much!

lol…l’m with JJ. I never realised how very bad my spelling (and typing) was until the spell check was switched on!!!!!
Oh those coloured lines are annoying!!!!!
I had the tech over to install a new computer. I insisted I wanted the google tool bar uploaded because of their form spell check. Tech guru looked me in the eye and said, “have you ever considered learning how to spell.” Cheeky man!

Ha!Ha! Try typing on a Japanese keyboard which I`m doing right now. Very frustrating when you type away in English and then press something wrong and you start off in Japanese characters, then press keys madly trying to figure what combination gets you back to English.
