The sun, by my son

May 2, 2006 by Jen at Semantically driven

On the way to work JJ said to me, ‘Can we get a fire truck to go and put out the sun?’

‘Mmm’, I said, ‘We would need lots of fire trucks’.

This question harks back to a month or more ago when JJ asked me something about the sun and I told him it was essentially a big fire ball. The memory of children ey? He’s remembered this, pondered it, and realised that perhaps, with the aid of fire trucks, we could put it out.

The questions of inquisitive nearly five-year-olds, reminds of an ad trying to sell broadband on TV that has a boy asking his father why the Wall of China was built. Without hesitating, his father says that it was built to keep the rabbits out.

It’s hard work being expected to be a font of knowledge.

Yeah, it’s hard work. Once in a while they’ll throw one at you that really stops you in your tracks; but isn’t it great? I love what comes out of a little one’s mouth.
