No longer an ebay virgin
I’ve sometimes browsed around ebay looking at what people sell there but I’d never bought anything until a few days ago.
Flashback to a couple of weeks ago. JJ and I were at a friend’s house with a copy of the Lion King video that he’d been lent by a mother’s group friend. He was busy showing it off to our friends and opened the video cover whereupon the video fell out and broke on the tiled floor. Bugger I thought, I’m going to have to replace that. I was going to explore buying new copies of this but thought I’d try second hand copies first which led me to thinking of ebay.
I hopped onto internet a couple of days later and lo and behold someone was selling Lion King 1 and 2 and another video and the bidding was only up to $5.00. Actually I think this was the reserve as I ended up being the first person to bid after I created a buyer’s account. I was a successful at $7.
I still await my items in the post and the postage ended up costing more than my purchase but for around $5 per video it’s pretty good and we’ll get to keep two of them.
The thing was, that I told a friend this story and much to my amazement she had never heard of ebay. I thought everyone had heard of ebay. She’s used the internet at work and at home but the ebay word has never entered her realm. She now knows about it and will probably become an ebay convert.
Life goes in in Big Brother
Michael gets evicted and I missed the incident with him and Gianna as I couldn’t face watching a whole episode of Uncut last week. I get the gist so it doesn’t really matter. Pity it wasn’t Dean that was evicted but I guess that will happen this week (hopefully) and Rachael will get some breathing space.
So here’s a few links from the last couple of days.

I disagree about Hotdogs as he’s a bit too much under the radar for me to see what he’s really like. Totally agree with sum-up of Rachael and Dean but as I said at above when Dean goes this week then Rachael will hopefully settle in a bit easier.
Recurring dream
I’ve started having a recurring dream with a common theme of tsunami or flood. My first one was at least a month ago and I didn’t think much of it until I had the next one last week.
I was near the coast on holiday I think and a tsunami hit. I clung onto a verandah post with a guy with a beard and while the water was raging all around us we clung onto each other and looked deeply and meaningfully into each others eyes.
The tsunami or flood stopped and because of sharing that moment with each other we had a special bond but after a short while of hanging around together he started avoiding me and the special bond was gone.
A familiar theme here. I can’t remember the number of guys that have shown an interest in me to begin with and then have just as quickly lost interest without telling me this.
Last night I had another tsunami or flood dream. This time I was in a hotel up on a higher floor and when the tsunami hit it wiped out all the floors underneath me but carried our floor away intact and floating. Like a boat we went with the flow of the water. I say we but I don’t know who I was with. There was a guy that I talked to for a while but there wasn’t the special bond that I shared with the guy in the last dream. We could walk around sometimes but when there was another surge we sat down and held on to whatever we could. I remember looking out the window at some stage and we were in a really wavy, murky sea like the one in the Perfect Storm movie. I vaguely remember seeing other stuff floating around in the water but don’t remember what it was.
Eventually the water abated and we washed up on shore but we were in a bus now, not on the hotel floor. I got out the bus took stock of my surroundings and JJ walked up to me. He hadn’t featured in this dream or my last dream at all until now. It was a special moment and I was really glad to see him then I woke up.
I’ve looked on the internet to find out what this symbol of water/flood/tsunami means and have found these references.
Flood – ‘A variation of the obstacle dream, and for an accurate interpretation all its details should be correlated, but as a general guide: If the flood was gentle and the water clear, your troubles will be short-lived. If the water was muddy and/or the flood a raging destructive force, you can expect to have to hoe a long hard row. If you were swept away in the flood, it is a warning that someone of the opposite sex whom you trust is actually trying to use you. If you escaped from the flood, you will be helped to overcome your obstacles.’
Another interpretation – ‘…currently experiencing powerful emotions that may be overwhelming. … Depending on the content of the dream and your emotional experience in it, the flood could also represent sexuality and be a sexual dream symbol.’
So am I to take from these two meanings that I’m being overwhelmed by some strong emotions, or is it a sexual dream symbol. Definitely the first dream where I was clinging to someone looking into their eyes could be a sexual dream. Overwhelmed by emotions – I call that bringing up a nearly four year old child on my own. I’m awash with emotions and sometimes it is too much.
I welcome feedback on my dreams and will update if I have any further flood type dreams.
That’s progress baby – and a series of small accidents
My friend had an art exhibition opening the other night and as I managed to score babysitting I went along. I went in solo so thought I’d catch the tram and the 99B bus which would practically take me to the front door. It was a nostalgic tram ride in as the type H trams stopped running yesterday so that tram track work can be done for two months before the introduction of the new trams, or light rail.
It was a memorable ride in as we had an accident along King William Street. A car was turning right and the tram was going straight ahead and the car ran into the tram. Of course we stopped, but apparently the car kept going. I had a look at the front of the tram as I got off to walk to Victoria Square and there was hardly a mark on it. I’ll bet the new light rail vehicles would not have fared as well.
The night was further marred by accidents as a friend (sister of the exhibitee) was being enthusiastically hugged and circled by a guy she didn’t even know and they both fell over into the wall. My friend fell very heavily on her bottom and had to go home. She’d been looking forward to a big night out too. Saw her yesterday and she’s ok, if not a bit sore.
Wind back time a bit to earlier in the day. JJ and I were in Target where I was going to have a look at some of their furniture. Almost straight away I lost JJ and couldn’t find him. Usually he will catch up with me. I ended up having to get his description called out over the loud speaker and get the staff to find him for me. He came back and was not fazed at all.
A little later in the supermarket he was hanging upside down on the metal rails inbetween the checkouts. I said, ‘Get down from there otherwise you’ll fall and hurt your head.’ There’s only so many times you can say this without sounding like a complete nag and the aim is to complete the shopping as quickly as possible and get the hell out of there. Of course he fell off didn’t he and I said, ‘Well I don’t feel sorry for you,’ and I didn’t comfort him at all. He didn’t hit his head that badly so it will be interesting to see if he does it again.
I maintain that if supermarkets and/or shopping centres had some sort of childcare that parents could pay a couple of bucks for an hour or two then it would more than pay for itself while the parents bought more stuff at their shops while they were childfree.
Gianna’s out, replacements are in
Have been a bit slack with my Big Brother links this week. Have had some time off sick and spent it in the warm room, not in the cold computer room.

World Photo Day 2005
Yesterday was World Photo Day 2005 organised by Drew Rossman. I participated in it and have a photo in there. Hint, do a search for Adelaide and so far I’m the only one there. I was at home sick yesterday so didn’t take as many photos as I would have liked to pick my final one.
This project reminds me of a book my parents had which was a similar idea, but just not digital like World Photo Day 2005. The book would have been a lot bigger undertaking because digital cameras and email weren’t around then (late 1970s I think) but the idea was that cameras were distributed around the world to various people and they took a bunch of photos during a designated day. The photos were then compiled into an excellent book and gives a really good snapshot of what was happening around the world on this day. I wish I could remember the name of the book. Does anyone else know?
