Wishful thinking

Strawberry and cream sponge cake. Day 305/365.

Saturday, 24 September 2011, Day 305/365.

I don’t think I need to say too much more about this. Sponge cake, fresh whipped cream and strawberries. The sponge could have been a bit spongier but otherwise it was delicious.

Trigs. Day 306/365.

Sunday, 25 September 2011, Day 306/365.

See how blue the sky is here? I’m hoping one week later, ie today, that it is this blue. By the time this is published we will be camping and the weather doesn’t promise to be that good this weekend. Fingers crossed for us, please. Thank you.

Multitasking – boys can do it

Multitasking. Day 304/365.

Friday, 23 September 2011, Day 304/365.

There’s a rumour going around that boys/men can’t multitask. I put it to you that it is men that have spread this rumour so they have a good excuse to get out of doing things requested of them by women.

I’ve seen evidence that males can multitask. I’ve caught out my boyfriend doing just that and he’s sworn me to silence so as not to ruin the myth that men can’t multitask. Sorry I’m breaking my silence.

In other evidence, I’ve seen my son playing his DS with the computer on his lap and the tv on too. This could be related more to his generation having short atttention spans and the like because they’ve so many electronic things to ‘stimulate’ them.

So girls, don’t let them fool you. Our menfolk can multitask when they choose.

Staying put

View from level 13. Day 302/365.

Wednesday, 21 September 2011, Day 302/365.

Making the most of the view outside my window at work. I was told more than a month ago that I’d be moving but nothing’s happened and any mention of it hasn’t happened for some time now.

I’d like to stay at my desk because it’s better than where I’d be going.

Hopefully they’ve forgotten?

Pot of gold at the end of the rainbow

Double rainbow. Day 300/365.

Monday, 19 September 2011, Day 300/365.

Last Monday was one of those awful windy spring days. One of those days where it hasn’t rained for a while so the dust is picked up by the wind and annoys hayfever sufferers. Before I even went to work I had a hayfever tablet which helped a bit, but didn’t help the dull head I had all day.

On the way home from work it poured with rain and as I looked out the window I saw this rainbow. It was one of those perfect ones where it stretches all the way across the sky.

After I got off the bus it had pretty much stopped raining, but I’d got my umbrella out just in case and the man said to me that it was lucky I had my umbrella. I told him I always carry it and then because I thought he hadn’t seen the rainbow and everyone should see it I pointed it out.

He said there might be a pot of gold at the end of it to which I replied that I was going to pick up my pot of gold, ie my son.

On the way to pick up my pot of gold, I took this photo and it wasn’t until I saw it later that I realised there were two rainbows. Does that mean a double pot of gold?

Weekend

Birthday girl. Day 298/365.

Saturday, 17 September 2011, Day 298/365.

In flower. Day 299/365.

Sunday, 18 September 2011, Day 299/365.

The weekend that was. Celebrating a friend’s 40th and enjoying lovely spring weather.

That was a week ago and now I’ve got a virus and don’t feel like much at all.

Holding the rail

Hold the rail. Day 297/365.

Friday, 16 September 2011, Day 297/365.

This is a bit of a health post. A few months ago I wrote about my sore knees and how I was having some glucosamine powder but it was so awful I had to find ways of making it more palatable.

I did the mix it with fruit smoothy thing for a little while but gave it up and just ended up mixing the powder with water, holding my nose, drinking it and without taking another breath, having a sip of coffee to get rid of the god-awful taste.

I was really glad when I finished this powder.

I’m now taking the equivalent in tablet form and it’s much much better. And so are my knees. I take one of the glucosamine tablets, two fish oil tablets and a Vitamin B tablet and my knees are much better.

They would hurt when walking up and down stairs and I still get a twinge but it’s much easier to get up stairs without wincing at the pain.

Weaving the web

The web. Day 294/365.

Tuesday, 13 September 2011, Day 294/365.

Sometimes I love the way photos turn out. For this one I noticed the extra detail, something I might normally walk past.

Incase you can’t tell, this is a spider web. It’s on a fence and I took it on our morning walk. I probably had to stop when Monty stopped to have a sniff at something and that’s when I noticed it.

The term ‘the web’ means a lot more to me too because it’s the area of work that I’m involved in and love doing. Even though I have some contract work at the moment I still apply for longer term jobs as they arise.

I went for an interview a few weeks ago and thought I did pretty well but found out that I was unsuccessful. I’ve asked for some feedback but have yet to hear and think that I may not.

I know it’s a difficult phone call to have, the sorry you weren’t quite what we were looking for as an employee phone call, but as I took a lot of my time to write an application and get ready for and attend an interview surely I’m entitled to some feedback?

So I’m left wondering if my skills weren’t quite up to scratch, or they thought I might not be a good team fit or perhaps it was something else entirely?

I pick myself on and move on to the next possibility, write yet another job application when the opportunity arises. Or perhaps I’m destined for more contract work? I do quite like it even though it’s not quite the work that I’d ideally like to be doing, I am learning things.

Does the spider know what it’s doing next when it weaves its web? I sure don’t.
