The slang term ‘crack open a coldie’ does refer to opening a beer, but if you hate beer it could mean crack open a bottle of sparkling, or a can of your favourite beverage couldn’t it?

Thanks for all your hard work. Love the evolving Aussie language (slanguage) that is themeing up the Carnival editions. I so want to love having a coldie but I HATE beer. It doesn’t sound as cool to say, “I’ll just sip on a glass of champagne while I consume the posts.”
